A day at the beach!

Family picnic area & volley ball court! Maybe also one for the guys?,

One for the guys!

Day 43 Hair Day!

Awoke this morning with that sort of  'first day back at school' feeling in my stomach.  It's ridiculous, how can going to the hairdressers be such a big deal!

It's 10.45am..  Off I go to the hairdressers.  Clive says look upon it as an adventure!  Well, hair always grows back!  I get there and I'm the only customer.  Luckily there is a very trendy young lady working there - gives me hope.  I choose two colours for highlights.  The young lady shows me where to sit and Martha goes to mix the colours.  I start chatting to the young girl - I am starting to relax.  Too soon I think, back comes Martha with one bowl - she has mixed the two colours together!! I start to panic again,  never mind I think.  As the saying in 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel ' says. ' it will all be alright in the end, and if if not alright, it's not yet the end '.  I hold on to that thought.

Colour progressing.  I chat with the young girl - Martha really has difficulty understanding me!  I am not looking in a mirror so have no idea what she is doing.  All finished, I'm left to 'cook'. I feel even more nervous as the cut is soon approaching!  Colour washed off - guess its rather yellow - they put on a toner - thank goodness.  Once washed off, it doesn't look too bad.  I try to explain to Martha I just want a trim.  I show her which side my parting is on and I have a fringe - they call it bangs. I think all is going ok and then I realise she has got my parting on the wrong side.  With lots of prompts from me, we get there!  It's almost finished and doesn't look too bad.  I breath a sigh of relief.

We chat a little. She is from Columbia.  She suddenly says she should have practiced her French, but says my English is very good!  I feel I have had a lucky escape!  She is lovely.  Lots of  ' The Snow Birds' as they are called, come from Quebec - Fench Speaking.  She must have thought I was one of them.  I leave feeling more confident if I have to return there.

We quickly pack a picnic and off to the office we go.  It's a good afternoon.  We don't leave until 6pm.

I feel quite exhausted!

Day 42. At the pool with the Golden Girls!

It's a public holiday this weekend and thank goodness this bad weather cycle has seemed to have broken!

Clive's feet and legs are too sore to walk today.  We say we will go to the pool this evening.  Clive is still busy working, so off to meet 'The Golden Girls' I go.  They are in the pool there are three of them.  I join in and 'walk', I know I seem to make a joke about the walking, but it really does make your muscles work hard.  We walk and talk and laugh.  It was good to catch-up with them.

I had arranged to face time Ben and family at 3pm.  It was so lovely to see them all.  William asked.  Ben " where are Nana's eyes?"  Me, only concentrating on looking at them, had moved , all they could see was the bottom half of my face!  - not a great view at my age!  I will try and catch -up again with them all.

I had forgotten to tell you about my reading light.  Clive reads from his iPad - light behind screen.  I, being more of a dinosaur, still have a paperback!  My bedside light is so bright, I feel I can't keep it on and read as it may disturb Clive.  Solution!  I wear the headlamp torch!  Can you imagine?  Clive says I look like a miner.  Being a woman,  I feel it reminds me of a gynaecologist!  I think I'm turning into my inlaw's.  " eh, we have a laugh!"  Goodness only knows what the neighbours think.  It must look like a search light in the bedroom!.

Have booked a hair appointment for tomorrow.  The lady is Hispanic.  I feel I maybe in dangerous waters here!

How about this for a method of keeping fit!

No, not Clive and I !

Day 41. Early morning walk.

We awoke early and although the weather wasn't looking too good,  we thought we would walk on the beach.  The sun was just coming up, it was lovely.  You could see black clouds to the far end of the beach.  We were walking and talking over the previous evening.  Clive thought we could walk further to Hollywood.  He new of a small cafe on the beach where we could get some coffee and breakfast - sounded good to me!  We continue and get our food.  We sit outside, watching the sea and the few people about that early in the morning.  It was a really nice change.

I could see the clouds blackening from the far end of the beach.  Then the horizon starts to blur.  It's going to be an electric storm - it's starting to thunder.  We suddenly realise that it's approaching from both sides!  We sit under the shelter and wait as large rain spots are falling.  We talk to a guy called Bob.  He has cycled there for his early morning beer!  He is interesting - I think it's a world that Clive has no idea about.  Bob has retired. He now rides his cycle ( or as he confesses, sometimes pushes it!) he says he has addictions - he smokes, he drinks and he gambles.  He only has his state pension, so when he has spent it, he has to wait for the next money to arrive.  He had some stories to tell.  He was so pleased to talk to us.  You could tell he was lonely - his addictions had cost him his marriage.  We saw a very small break in the weather and decided to take a gamble ourselves!  We would try and get back to the car before the next phase of the storm arrives.  Bob shakes our hands and thanks us for our company.  Sometimes a good dead cost nothing.

We aren't wearing shoes as we came along the sands.  We decide to walk back along the Broadwalk. There may be more shelter if it rains.  We manage to make it - the larger rainspots are just falling as we get in the car.  Clive's feet are sore - he is hobbling by the time we get to the car.  They have these showers as you come off the beach.  Everyone washes their feet off before getting in their cars. As we drive out, you can see the huge pools of water everywhere.

No pool today.  Back home we go.  Clive is watching this series called Weed.  It about a family growing and dealing Ganja.  Sort of a comedy.  It's quite crazy I think but he really enjoys it!

I make meatballs and pasta for supper - they were good!

Another Lobster Dinner!

Day 40. Tuesday. Lobster Night !

Well.  Today was due to be Mall day.  Last evening I googled the salon and found it to be 2*. Not good enough reviews to take a chance!  So now checking other places out online.

We have arranged to meet Clive's sister and niece for dinner.  We are going to Quarterdeck, it's Lobster night!  They come over about 4.30pm.  They are both lovely.  They look like they could be sisters!  Both are very beautiful.  We have a lovely evening.  I have the Lobster again - Mmm delicious!  It goes so well with a large glass of Pinot Grigio!  Clive doesn't really drink, so I grab the opportunity when I can.

It was a good evening.

Waiting for the sunrise!

                                             What fantastic clouds!

Day 39. Monday

We seem to be stuck in this very changeable weather front.  I think we have been lucky as nearby they have had a tremendous amount of rain.  We have been lucky also not to have had a Hurricane.  It is coming towards the end of the hurricane season.

Clive has a full day of work planned.  I plan to go to the pool - haven't seen The Golden Girls for a while.  No such luck.  The weather changes that plan.  I do laundry and watch a Jazz episode. They are so interesting.  We have a Red Alert on our mobiles.  It's a great idea.  A child had gone missing in a car.  They send a Red Alert message on TV and through the mobile network.  It gives the details of the vehicle they are looking for and the area it happened in.  It's an immediate response.  Luckily today they traced the car and the child was ok. I wondered what was happening when my phone suddenly made this different sound.  Not sure if we get this in UK. (My phone is very old style!)

This evening we watch some TV.  Hope tomorrow brings some brighter weather.  Only 12 days till we leave for cruise!

Turtles in our garden lake

Day 38. Quiet day at home

We had planned to go on the Water Taxi today.   This runs from Hollywood  to Ft Lauderdale.  I was lucky to get a Groupon voucher for half price tickets!  Looking at the weather - still talking about the weather, even in Florida!- it's not the day to do this trip.  Too cloudy and looking like rain.

As it turns out we made the right choice.  Clive was not feeling too well.  We have a quiet day at home.  Couldn't even do laundry as the water was supposed to be turned off for a couple of hours. So watched  TV and listened to music.  We did go and get some groceries.  That was about it for the day.

This evening Breaking Bad was on TV - it's brilliant. Looking forward to next episode!

Hope tomorrow is a better day!

On the way to The Mall!

Day 37. My first face time!

I have arranged to do FaceTime with Sophie and family - my first attempt. I get up and think I had better make an effort with myself, as this screen doesn't seem very flattering!  We link up at around 10am all goes well.  Very simple and straight forward.  It was lovely to see both Sophie and her family, plus Leah and her family had just arrived. Everyone looked so good after their holiday's. The boys all look so grown up - Charlie, almost a young man. Ted has his first loose tooth!  - another mile stone. Cleo, so beautiful and smiling away!  I must FaceTime Ben and his family.  The are at football today though.  Clive and I were laughing so much at Felix.  He almost burst out laughing when he saw Clive,  it was so funny.  Clive was really pleased to meet them for the first time.  He thought they were all great.  He thought Adrian was a very warm person - although he told Adrian some stories about me!

We decide to go for a Jamaican breakfast near Miami.  We pass the Miami Harley Davidson Dealership.  They were very busy.  It made me think of Tina and Dave.  I know Dave has been there!
We have a good breakfast, and we meet a really friendly couple having breakfast on the next table.  We have some good fun with them.  I am the only white person in there again. It's obviously very good food as its so busy.

We then go to The Mall in Ft.Lauderdale!  I book an appointment at a hairdressers for Tuesday.  I plan for Clive to drop me and have a day there on my own - watch out bank account!  We decide to go to the movies.  It's the new movie about The White House  Butler,  with Oprah and other great actors.  It was so good - if you have a chance, watch it.  I have never been to a cinema with such luxurious seats! Thank goodness it was such a good movie, or I would have been asleep!

Great day!

Humour not always the same over here!

Day 36. Early morning sunrise!

We are at the beach for 6.45am.  It looks like its going to be a good sunrise today.   We walk through to the sands and there is a redish golden glow on the horizon.  The only problem is a rather large cloud just covering the sun.  We start to walk slowly keeping our eye on the sun.  The ocean here is so warm.  It's the Atlantic but unlike north Cornwall,  it comes up from the equator so it's lovely and warm.  It sometimes can be rough though, like the north Cornish coast.  Kids play with skim boards and in the evening people fish from the beach.  There is hardly anyone around, just a few like minded people with cameras, or people running or cycling to miss the heat of the day.  It's so lovely here, I'm so lucky!  We walk a little way and up comes the sun!

Back to the pool we go.  We are the only ones there again.  It's only 8am.  We so enjoy the swimming and walking and of course talking.  The clouds are starting to come over us, better get home!

We have a quiet day. It's starts to rain a little but we have nothing planned.  Clive has almost finished his workload.  ( Maybe I'll get my hair done next week!). Can't believe we only have a couple of weeks before we fly to Vancouver!  That trip is so exciting!  We both are so looking forward to it.

Watch three movies - Clive's gone to bed!   Decide to try FaceTime tomorrow!  ( Me and technology - not so sure it will work)

Check out the news flash on TV!  I was laughing,  Clive didn't get it- humour doesn't always travel well!

Greeting The Sunrise at Dania Beach

Sunrise at Dania Beach.

Day 35. Thursday

Had a dreadful nights sleep!  Seemed to be up most of the night.

Clive suggested we swim later in the day.  He had lots to do and he said he thought I looked tired.  I actually feel fine and get lots done around the place.   Make a Lasagna - dinner sorted.  Clive purchased Rum and Raisin Ice cream at the supermarket.  ( He says he's in charge of it's distribution - he says he will know if I have been stealing it from the freezer!)  I wasn't keen on getting any - too tempting!

We set off to Hollywood to collect the printing.  This turns into a very long trip!  We collect the brochures that were printed.  Then he gets a quote for more printing. - 1000 dollars!   No way.  Off to the office supplies we go, looking for office style printers.  We price Laser printers and we could have a top of the range printer for almost half of the printing cost.  I keep singing the praises of his own  small Dell printer.  He is just about to throw it in the trash.  I suggest we try one ream of quality paper,  it's only 10 dollars.  We get a bright white ream and home we come.  He sets up his printer and prints 10 sets. -  they are perfect!  He says its probably a fluke  but he will try another 10.  They also are great.  Now he wishes we had printed the brochures ourselves!  He says I saved that printers life!  After looking into it,  this printer - although only inkjet - has all the features of the new one he wanted!

It's late when we eat dinner - which was good, though I say it myself.  We decide to watch something easy -  we put on Doc Martin.  Clive has it on Net Flix.  Wow,  Cornwall is so beautiful!  We are both falling asleep.  Will watch it another day!

Views from 'The Cat Walk'!

Day 34. Wednesday

It's not a great day weather wise.  Electrical storm happening when I awake.  Don't think we will going swimming this morning!

As I thought!  Clive sleeps late.  He has been working so hard - think he needed the rest!  We have a late breakfast.  Our Mango's have almost gone!  We will have to pick some more.  We have one each every morning as part of our breakfast. - they are SO good!

Clive is printing some work and we chat and listen to music.  He is very clever and artistic.  We seem to laugh a lot also - it's nice to share your life with someone! He is great company,  although he doesn't always get my sense of humour!  (caused a few awkward moments!)

We have to go to the printers in Hollywood.  Clive suggests the Mall after.  It's now 6.30pm, it's too late for me. Lets just go home and watch a movie, I suggest.  We watch Melancholia. Rather slow for me.  I only give it 2 stars!

Jaxsons

Day 33. We are going to the Mall!

Yesterday I asked Clive if we could go to the Mall sometime, as I wanted to get a hairdressers appointment.  He had suggested we went after the Office but I felt I looked a mess after a day at the beach. Plus he was also tired.  He had been working all day.

Clive is already working when I get up.  He suggests we have breakfast, I get ready and off to the Mall we will go!  He thinks it will be less disruptive to his work.  Also we could get some lunch there. This large Mall is in Ft. Lauderdale, so I can't walk!

We have breakfast. I get ready - all dressed up - as I have to go into a swish hair salon!  I wait patiently.  I don't want to work up a sweat doing anything.  He keeps apologising.  " just a little more to do and I will be ready" he says.  By this time it's 12.30.  "Shall we have a snack before we go" he suggests.  Now we are approaching 2pm!  I say " I will go across the road, to the nail bar". I needed a pedicure.  Off I go.  I have a great American pedicure experience.  You know The Hollywood Nails type of place.  Feet look great!   " would you like a manicure" the young lady says.  I think, why not. I've been sat around all day!  So I come out of the salon feeling a million dollars!  Feet and hands a glistening!  Skip home - of course I practice my new Green Cross Code skills.

Clive guessed I had managed to get an appointment.  He is still working.  I suggest we forget the Mall.  Take the car back to Mercedes and go to Jaxons for an Icecream!  He agrees.  This is what we do.  I try the peanut butter one - wont be having it again.  The Rum and Raisin is much better!

We decide to watch a Morgan Freeman movie.  I am falling asleep, so off to bed I go.  It's amazing how a lazy day can make you SO tired!

Maybe the Mall tomorrow ?  I'm not building up my hopes!

How about this view from the office window!

Day 32. Another day at the office

Early morning swim!  Back for breakfast.  Clive has a lot of work to do, so off to the Office we go.

We are the only people using it.  Music on and a lovely sea view to admire.  Not a soul in sight!

We spend along time there.  Leaving at around 6pm.  It's so relaxing there just watching the surf! We had a good picnic.  Clive ate my bagel!  He hadn't realised what I had meant, when I asked if he wanted his like mine - he now wants one like that again.  Infact he has another when we get home.

TV and early night.  We were both tired.

Monday, 19 August 2013

These apples are just huge!

Day 31. Our Day of Rest!

We have to take Clive's car to Mercedes for 12noon.  So we have a lazy morning and breakfast.  We get to Mercedes on time - something Clive is a stickler about, time keeping! We have a bright red loan car this time.  It's very smart.

We go to the supermarket, the sun is shining and it seems a lovely day.  By the time we come out, the heavens have opened!  No one can get to their cars.  Luckily it only lasts a short time,  then out pops the hot sun again.  It's a bit of a weather day, so we just  have lunch and watch another Jazz episode. They last about 2 hours.  This time I gave in and went for a nap.

After dinner, we watched a series called Breaking Bad,  it's very good.  I managed to catch a repeat of the last episode, so I know what's going on.  Not sure if we get this series in UK?  If not, we should.

Sunday, 18 August 2013

Day 30. Saturday.

It's Saturday again!  This is going into my fifth week. -unbelievable.  Time is just rushing by.  I don't think I remember my life going so fast!  ( what is it they say about the older you get).

We set off for the beach to walk.  We are a little later, it after 7pm.  The sun is up, it's a lovely day.  We don't walk quite so far as the heat is building.  You have to remember, you have to turn around and walk back.  ( this is one of my Mum's sayings.). It's so true! It can get so hot, so quickly. We decide to walk back on the pathway behind the beach.  It looks like it could be more shady.  What a great idea. We see the most lovely beach houses to rent!  I was thinking of my children and grandchildren.  They would just love it right off the sands!  We took a couple of numbers and web sites.  Clive's apartment is only 2 mins drive from the beach.  It's just perfect for us.  Back to the pool for our swim.  Again the only ones there!  The pool is so relaxing!

We seem to have a quiet day.   Doing laundry ( I have now got that timed to perfection)  We listen to music and some comedy. - I do find some of the comedy hard to get.

After dinner we watch a movie,  First Wives Club.  Very funny!

The Office and its view!

Day 29. Day at The Office!

Our new regime is going well.  At the beach by 6.50am.  Today we saw the sunrise!  We had a good walk.  I collected another shell for my collection.  I have decided once I've picked it up, even if its a little ugly, I have to take it -I know, kinda crazy!

Back to the pool, what a blue sky -not a cloud in sight.  It's funny here, the weather is so changeable.  Even hot though when it's raining!  Must have been well in the 90s today.  We do some walking and swimming.  We are the only ones there!  We start laughing,  I think we probably woke up some residents.  We were exhausted after our laughing session. Clive thinks I won't need my coffee -he says I have enough endorphins from the laughter -  no chance!

Breakfast and then I pack a quick picnic and off to the office we go.  We take the iPod  and Clive entertains  everyone with his music selection - luckily everyone seemed to enjoy it!  We stayed there until about 5pm.  What a glorious day!

This is the life!

A Jaxsons Special!

Not ours!

Day 28. A New Regime Begins

Clive awoke early, with the suggestion we go and see the sunrise at the beach.

It was 6.45am when we left for the beach.  It only takes 2 mins to drive to the beach.  It looks like rain is on its way.  They had given us a bad weather warning for today.  We had also put our swimwear in the bag and were going to the pool on the way back home.  This is to be our new regime!  Early morning walk to greet the sun and then a swim and some excercise in the pool!  Clive has really embraced his healthier life style.  We are going to try and buy some fresh coconut water from the man at the laundry.  He is a vegetarian and grows lot of fresh fruits and veg.  He also has bee's, so we may get some local honey.

We have a good walk, although the weather is not great.  Back we go to the pool.  We have a swim and Clive wants to do some 'walking'.  He is a bit like Ted,  he seems to spend more time swimming under the water.  He has amazing lung capacity! ( New one Ade!). It's getting very dark and we see lightening!  We get out quickly!  Home for breakfast and its only 8.30am.

We watch another  Jazz episode whilst eating a late lunch.  Clive has already had a nap and I am now falling asleep.  We get a call from Clive's niece.  She and her friend are going out for dinner and would like to meet at Jaxsons!  I rush and shower - first family members I have met - plus Ice Cream!  Doesn't get much better.  His Niece and her friend are both lovely.  They make me feel so comfortable and it was a lovely relaxed evening.  We are going to get together again before we leave.  We are going to go on the Water Taxi to Ft. Lauderdale and then back to eat at The Quarterdeck.

Get home late.  Had a lovely evening!

Thursday, 15 August 2013

Is this William's car? Maybe one day!

The Quarterdeck Bar!   Fab!

Day 27. Wednesday.

Off to the hospital - again - for results and to see neuromuscular consultant.

Great start!  All is fine with the Cardiologist.  Clive's heart is fine.  ( no excuses for not using stairs!). He was so relieved,  so was I!  He is such a vibrant person.  It would be hard to curtail his enthusiasm

He has a two hour session with the neuromuscular consultant.  He has more tests on his return from the cruise.

He is so revitalised by the good news about his heart.  He now is planning his fitness routine!  His blood glucose has gone right down into the normal range, since I have arrived.  He now looks for sugar content on labels and drinks lots of water.  He is actually getting used to it.  He says its the way forward for him.  ( of course this was all HIS own idea!)

What a day!    My Salmon with rice and peas was a great success!

Wednesday, 14 August 2013

Day 26. Clive is going in the pool!

Clive has a lot of work to do today but wants to join me at the pool.  He suggested we go later - little did I realise later was going to be 4pm!  I did chores and amused myself till he was ready.

He seemed a little apprehensive - not only did we walk to the pool,  we also went down the stairs from the apartment!  He loved it in the pool.  He seemed so relaxed and found men to chat with.  I feel it was just what he needed before tomorrow -  results day at the hospital.  The guys had been talking 'Pizza'.  So guess what, my salmon dinner went out of the window and off to the pizzeria we went.  It was good,  and I didn't have to cook!

Another episode of Wild China.  I'm falling asleep, off to bed I go.

Tuesday, 13 August 2013

The Pool!

Day 25. Very early start!

Up at 6 am.  Clive has his ' big day' at the hospital.  We have to be there for 7.30am.

We arrive and he is seen quickly.  He comes back to the waiting room with Gamma Rays in his blood stream.  He has to walk about and then rest off and on for 40 mins.  Then off he goes for all the testing.  I set off for breakfast and my much needed cup of coffee!  We catch up a little later when he can have a snack and drink.  He seems to be coping well.  The stress tests were not as tough as he thought they would be.  I know he has been very concerned about it all.  He then goes for an MRI scan.  They have to do it twice as his breathing pattern had changed. ( I expect he fell a sleep). By the time he comes out he is so stressed.  We have about an hour and a half break.  Then off he goes for an echograph on his heart.

We just go straight home from the hospital and he goes for a rest.  He is just exhausted.

We have dinner and watch The Wild China,  first episode.  It was a brilliant series.  I had already watched it a couple of years ago.  It's great to be able to watch it again.

I told Clive he would be a human torch when it got dark!

Hollywood Beach

Day 24. Breakfast in Hollywood

We decide to go to The Marriott Hotel on Hollywood Beach, for breakfast.  It's fab.  We sit outside and have the Buffet Breakfast-  Clive says he always feels like a tourist when he goes there,  I say I am a tourist!  It was a lovely start to the day!  We stayed there about two hours.  We just took our time and people watched.  My Grand Children would love it there.  They have a large Broad Walk. You can hire bikes, skates, segways and family bikes.  It looks great fun. It's like a big Weymouth!

We think we will visit The Office.  We haven't been for a while.
We pack our bags and off we go.  We are just ready to leave and Clive checks for the pass,  we can't find it.  We suddenly remember the last time we went we had the hire car.   So we make more checks and with Mercedes Benz but as yet no joy.   We decide to go to the pool instead and as all the bags are in the car,  we drive there!!

I have been using what I call, my spot.  Clive thinks some other table might be better.  I suggest he uses it for his work and I will use my sunbed and table for now.  He changes his mind and joins me!
One of my Golden Girl friends are there.  So I join her and we walk!!  ( I must take a T shirt or something to cover my shoulders - Ooh!  A bit red again!)

Clive is busy working but not for long - he soons starts chatting to everyone.  I finish my walk and join him.  We now are chatting to lady who is very friendly.  She tells us of all these different places to eat.  She very kindly tells us about an ice cream place, it's just up the road.  This time it's soft ice cream-  not my favourite.  So when we leave, off we go.  I have vanilla with butterscotch sauce -  I still think Jaxsons is the best!!  I think Clive agrees, although he likes soft ice cream.

It was a lovely day.  Just got to find the Pass for John U Lloyd State Park.  Oh, we did find a cheque in the car though! Clive had forgotten about it - treats all round this week!

The Golden Girls!

Day 23 Cow Foot for dinner!!

My day started with a visit to the pool.  I am officially part of the Golden Girl Team. -  I think I'm more Bronze though.  ( definitely not of skin colour though).  I was invited to  'Walk' with them.  There were four of us today.  We must have walked at least two miles up & down the pool.  It was actually good fun, but, of  course I burnt my shoulders walking in the hot sun.  They are very amusing.  Today the outfits were amazing!  One with gold lame' sun visor, purple and gold swimsuit, purple and gold dangling earrings.  Sarah was all in black and white. Sunhat, swimsuit, earrings and sunglasses.  I even heard her tell someone to put something in  her black and white bag, by her black and white towel.  They are the height of co-ordination!

Went back for lunch.  Then we watched another  Jazz episode. It's so good.

Cow foot dinner tonight, with rice and peas!  It was very good.  We watched the movie the Pianist,  it's such a good movie.

It's beginning to feel like home!

Sunset from our Balcony!

The Sunset from our balcony!

My Ironing Board

Day 22. Another Exploration!

My idea of going to the pool is scuppered by the weather.  What started out as not a bad day, seemed to be changing.  It was now grey and quite windy.  I decided to adventure to the supermarket on my own.  It's only across the main highway.  Clive gives me instructions on crossing the road - we both end up bursting with laughter!  He genuinely said " well Di, you would tell your children the same thing".  I was just helpless!  He means well and is such a stickler for precision.  Working in security, although his area is cyber security, he sees every possible area that is dangerous and a security breach is possible.  I even have detailed instructions of how to go the the laundry room. - about 20 yds away.  I must check inside before I close the door and always keep the door shut at all times-  although it is so hot in there!   I know he says America is a different ball-game from Rimpton! - He is so right!

I enjoy my trip, although as usual bought probably quite a lot to carry.  I was so surprised two men asked to help me carry my bags -  little did they know, they would have to carry them home for me! Everyone here drives everywhere.  The first time we went to the pool, Clive asked if I wanted us to drive there.  It's about 500yds away!

Spent the afternoon watching an episode of  The History of Jazz.  It's so interesting.  This was part two, about Louis Armstrong.  It's a great series.  Clive has the DVD s, thought Tina & Dave might enjoy watching them.  They love music and also history.

I am struggling to get these photos onto the blog.  Clive says I should write the instructions down.  I wish I could, every time I get one on, it's seems to be just luck!  Couldn't tell him how I did it.  He just laughs at me!!  ( Dave will understand!)

Day 21. Thursday Night is Lobster Night!

The most beautiful day!  Blue sky, sunshine and a lovely breeze!

Clive working today.  I'm off to explore local stores just outside the complex.  Then off to the pool.
Shops a little disappointing,  so off to the pool.

I find my usual spot, and set off for my swim.  Well, I have finished my swim and then start a little walk around and start to chat with one of ' The Golden Girls'.  This lady is wearing her very smart straw sun hat, glamorous sun glasses,  matching bright pink lipstick and nail polish.  She actually is very attractive and a really nice lady.  We have a good chat and she is very welcoming to me. She is called Sarah and lives in the apartment's opposite us.  I read my book, get some ray's and go back for lunch.

Clive now calls me A Golden Girl.  I think he is pleased I am making female friends.  Also I am not getting bored while he is working.  We listen to music in the afternoon and I take a nap.  We are going for a Lobster Dinner tonight at The Quarter Deck, Mmm,  so looking forward to it!

Off we go to the restaurant.  We are a little later than we hoped, as Clive was at an important section of his work.  We have to wait for about half an hour for a table. It is so nice there we didn't mind.  They have sports on tv's and there is such a vibe there.  It's a fun place to be.  Lobster was great, as was the wine!  We then decide to go to Jaxsons for an Ice Cream!   We have one scoop of Black Cherry and one of Rum and Raisin.  Delicious!!  We sit outside the ice cream parlour and eat it.  When you see the size of some of the ice creams,  you wonder how people eat them.  It was after 10.30pm when we left and there were still long lines waiting for both ice cream and the restaurant. I'm going to try Crunchy Peanut Butter flavour next time!

Lovely evening!

Day 20 Is everything bigger in USA?

Off to hospital again for another appointment for Clive!  All test's so far are inconclusive.  Doc's all seem to think all ok but Clive knows he is not completely better yet.  The hospital took most of the morning. Then off to the lab for more blood tests.

Clive had been up working from about 4.30am, so he goes off for a nap. I think I will get my ironing done. - what do you think of my ironing board?  I seem to be able to manage but it did make me laugh the first time I saw it!  You see everything is not always bigger over the pond!

Went out for a walk this evening.  This time I wore long trousers and a long sleeve shirt -  mosquito defence required.

Movies tonight.  We had half of one to watch from the night before.  It was very good, we gave it 4 stars!

On the beach

Day 19 A day by the pool.

Clive is really trying to get back into work mode.  I take myself off to the pool- it's so lovely there.

When I arrive there, I feel like I'm almost on a set for ' The Golden Girls '.  Older ladies in the pool with their sun hats, sun glasses and jewellery on!  They just seem to walk about and talk to each other.  I reckon I must join in - I now have to go with the flow!  So I set up my umberella, sun lounger and in the pool I go.   It's so lovely there.  Music playing and so clean and quiet.  I have a great swim ( and a little walk about) want to fit in!  I then  go and read my own book.  I then saw Denise, a lady that lives in our block.  That was nice.  We have a chat,  she and her boyfriend have a Harley Davidson,  so I tell her all about my friends Tina and Dave.  She is a really nice lady, she's the lady that told us about The Quarter Deck Bar, on the Pier.  We are probably going there for dinner tomorrow, as they have a Lobster Dinner night on a Tuesday and Thursday. It's only about £10.00 pounds for a whole Lobster and one side dish!  Can't wait.

It was nice to have some time alone but I missed Clive's detailed conversation!  He always tells a story well.  I think he missed me.  He did say he had got a lot of work done though.  I think he feels more comfortable now knowing I can amuse myself.  I think he sometimes forgets I've lived on my own!

Grow your own.

                                          Home Grown and Delicious!

Day 18 Monday 1st Harvest!

Breakfast out of the way. We set off to the hardwear store and get our picker working!  Off we go with our appliance to the garden.  We make a good start and collect a couple of lovely Mango's.  on to  'our tree',  it's right in front of the apartment.  We collect about 9 more.  Then to the other end of the garden, we keep collecting till our bag is full to bursting! We have a chat with a man called Dennis, he says they are not all the same type. Some trees are better than others.  We collect 28 in all!

When we get home, Clive thinks we should try and sort and label the Mango's by tree!  It's a methodical job.  We unpack and he makes a label for each one!  I get the apple trays from the fridge and we store them in those trays.  When we eat them, we will select the trees to collect from next time.  Well that's the theory!

Get some chores done. Clive is busy working-  not really sure what at -don't ask!

Day 17. Day at the beach

What a glorious day!

Having breakfast, we tried one of the Mango's Raul had given us from the garden.  It was absolutely delicious !  Clive then decided we had to get our own 'picker'?  Off we went to the hardwear store.  Armed with picker and metal rod and jubilee bands we set off to make our picker even longer,  we could then get the best mango's from the top of the tree!   We had a little set back,  we couldn't get it to extend. We were going to have to go back with it tomorrow, as we had already decided to have a day at the beach.

I packed a quick picnic but Clive thought we could nip to the supermarket for fried chicken.  Well, as usual we came out with a picnic bag filled to feed you all! Cherries, crisps, grapes,,chicken, bread rolls and finally he got a filled roll for us aswell.  You wouldn't think it, but he actually has a small appetite!  I knew this was going to feed us for days, as he also wastes nothing.

We went to Dania Beach, it was glorious.  Set ourselves in a shady spot near the pier.  It was packed with lots of people.  Families, youths and lots of people with boats fishing.  We had a lovely day. Two cruise liners set sail around 5.30pm,  we then had cruise envy!  One off to the Bahamas and one to the Caribbean. It started to get very dark, the sky was looking black and threatening.  I suggested we get home, it looked like a thunder storm coming our way!  We had only just things in the car and the lightening started.  It was so close to us.  I was glad we got home and not too wet.

We actually finished finished  our book, The Moonstone.  It was slightly disappointing  as neither of us guessed  correctly.  It was a mammoth task to read but I think we will kind of miss it!

Looking forward to reaping our own mango harvest tomorrow!

Day 16. Rainy day!

I was correct. On waking I couldn't have possibly eaten the meal again!  Clive still wanted to have the 'Food '- that's what the root products are called in Jamaica.  They traditionally eat this Salt Fish and Ackee for breakfast.  So we don't rush but I make it for him and he also struggles to eat it,  but he just enjoyed it so much!  You could see it in his face.  He can't wait for the week all- inclusive in Jamaica! ( nor can I, but for different reasons! Mmm Rum Punch with nutmeg!)

It's a weather day, as Clive calls it.  We scan through the 500 movies he has put in a line on Net Flix. Make our choices.  I thought they were going in a queue, but no, I was supposed to have remembered them!  We watch a couple and just have a quiet day.

It's amazing how time seems to go by so much quicker when you're with someone.

Day 15. Quiet day at home!

After the past couple of busy days, we decide to have a day at home.  Clive says he has work to do and I need to do laundry and wanted to get to the pool.  Life seems to have away of doing its own thing!

After breakfast we decided I would get the laundry and some cleaning done, and Clive was going to start his marathon cooking session. Soup and the Jamaican National Dish - Saltfish and Ackee! This meal was to be servered with yam - yellow and white variety, sweet potatoes, green banana and bread fruit!!!  He has never really cooked this before -  very ambitious me thinks!  He makes the soup (which was a staple before I came). I had to be instructed in this art!  My time is passing by.  Then we start on the evening meal.  We sort of make a timetable and also have to watch a video of cooking bread fruit,  well, to be honest, we must have watched six videos!

Got the breadfruit baking and then watched  ' The Iron Lady'. Great movie! Time seemed to go by quickly and it was time to prepare the balance of the meal.  All went well and by 8.30pm we were eating the enormous plate of food.  It was actually very good!  Clive thought it was very authentic! He should know.   After we finished he said " we can have what's left for breakfast!.  Maybe he will! Me far to full to eat it again in the morning!

Day 14. Two week mile stone!

Up early and off to the hospital.  Clive is seeing a cardiologist - I know, I've only been here two weeks!!

We have to be there for 9 am. All goes well, we fill the car with gas and off we go.  He gets seen really quickly but is gone for over an hour and a half.  I was beginning to feel a little concerned, but also thought it good they were really checking him out.  Eventually he comes out with lots of paperwork and a very serious face.  Sits down and says they are going to admit him!  I took a sharp intake of breath, I was thinking,  what the hell am I going to do! I can't drive, the hospital was miles from home!  Also what was worng with him!  He then burst out with laughter, he was only joking!  He was ok, few more test to have and different docs.to see.  He really had scared me.

It was a lovely place. It had a great restaurant which we ate at.  Also we had seen this little farmers type market outside on our arrival.  We went out and browsed, there were some good stalls, food , jewellery, bags etc.  Clive found a bread fruit, so we now have that to add to our meal he is going to prepare!

We get home, only to find he had turned his phone off at the hospital, and he had a message to say his car repair was finished and could he return the loan car later in the day.  He suddenly realised, we had put sixty dollars of gas in that morning!  We had thought of driving to the keys over the weekend.  He has been waiting six weeks for his car.  He was pleased to get it back but miffed about the fuel. I suggested he ask if by any chance they would fill his for him in exchange.  We didn't holdout much hope but he asked and they did!  So good result - remember if you don't ask you don't get!  A man also came in an announced he had been driving the loan car un licenced, no one had realised as he had the  car so long!

We went to the beach after collecting the car.  We went to a bar on the pier, it was fab.  We had Sushi and wine!  It was perfect!

On the way home I suddenly said to Clive, " what if we had gone the right way to the restaurant yesterday and got caught up in the police thing.  It could have been really bad for us - a Blackman, in a brand new Mercedes rental car, that wasn't licenced!"  When you watch the news, you know there are two sets of rules out here - one for whites and one for blacks.  I now know you should go with whatever happens . 'Everything happens for a reason'.

Take care everyone!

Day 13. Out for breakfast,

Today Clive has to go for some blood tests at the clinic.  We were going fairy early in the day, so I suggested we had breakfast out.   We have been really good and eaten at home a lot !  All went  well at the clinic.  Whilst we were there Clive was talking to the guy booking him in and asked if there was a Jamaican restaurant nearby.  He had decided we would have a Jamaican breakfast , salt cod and akkie - don't forget, we had salt cod soaking at home  and two more cooked meals now in the freezer!   He got directions and off we went.  Well, we must have been travelling around for about 45 mins and we still hadn't found the restaurant.  I could tell, he was again a man on a mission,  we WERE having this Jamaican breakfast!  Eventually we turned and went the other way and found the turning to get to it.  BUT,  a police cordon, lights flashing, street blocked off and all looked a little scary.  So he reluctantly decided to get nearer home and go to IHOP.  It was delicious.  I had waffles,  Mmm! ( I was secretly thrilled with the choice).  By the time we had breakfast, it was almost lunch time!

Not far home.

We continued with the book!   Later we took a walk nearby.  It was a lovely evening.
