We awoke early and although the weather wasn't looking too good, we thought we would walk on the beach. The sun was just coming up, it was lovely. You could see black clouds to the far end of the beach. We were walking and talking over the previous evening. Clive thought we could walk further to Hollywood. He new of a small cafe on the beach where we could get some coffee and breakfast - sounded good to me! We continue and get our food. We sit outside, watching the sea and the few people about that early in the morning. It was a really nice change.
I could see the clouds blackening from the far end of the beach. Then the horizon starts to blur. It's going to be an electric storm - it's starting to thunder. We suddenly realise that it's approaching from both sides! We sit under the shelter and wait as large rain spots are falling. We talk to a guy called Bob. He has cycled there for his early morning beer! He is interesting - I think it's a world that Clive has no idea about. Bob has retired. He now rides his cycle ( or as he confesses, sometimes pushes it!) he says he has addictions - he smokes, he drinks and he gambles. He only has his state pension, so when he has spent it, he has to wait for the next money to arrive. He had some stories to tell. He was so pleased to talk to us. You could tell he was lonely - his addictions had cost him his marriage. We saw a very small break in the weather and decided to take a gamble ourselves! We would try and get back to the car before the next phase of the storm arrives. Bob shakes our hands and thanks us for our company. Sometimes a good dead cost nothing.
We aren't wearing shoes as we came along the sands. We decide to walk back along the Broadwalk. There may be more shelter if it rains. We manage to make it - the larger rainspots are just falling as we get in the car. Clive's feet are sore - he is hobbling by the time we get to the car. They have these showers as you come off the beach. Everyone washes their feet off before getting in their cars. As we drive out, you can see the huge pools of water everywhere.
No pool today. Back home we go. Clive is watching this series called Weed. It about a family growing and dealing Ganja. Sort of a comedy. It's quite crazy I think but he really enjoys it!
I make meatballs and pasta for supper - they were good!
Well I don't know. ... Walking around sans shoes talking to strangers you'll be going out without a vest on next ! I think you're having a cracking time over in the colonies and long may it continue . Rimpton remains the same of course ,decorating on your house is moving along a pace. I've had the operation on my right shoulder and so now I'm a one armed paper hanger and as the arm has to be in a sling 24/7 for three to six weeks I feel that I will go stir crazy ...no garage of me if I open it up to hi to my girls Tina is telling me look but no touching ...my the number of times I've heard that!
